KSCMMC Limited, a public sector enterprise was established with an objective to revamp the coir industry in Kerala. The 24 crore project, which has a building complex sprawling upto 48,000 sq. ft. at Alapuzha was implemented after several comprehensive and thorough consultations at the governmental level. The company ensures modern facilities including CNC lathe machine, conventional lathe, CNC milling machine, conventional milling machine, heavy duty shearing machine, bending machine, drilling machines, fabrication shop, spray painting section, heat treatment section, heavy duty crane along with skillful & experienced professionals to operate these.The R & D wing with modernised facilities, experienced engineers and quality control experts are also specialities of KSCMMC. The company, founded in December 2014 has built mini defibering machines, willowing machines, screeners and other allied coir machineries within a limited span.
Coir, also known as ‘The Golden Fibre’, is extracted from the husk of coconut and it is found between the hard internal shell and the outer coat of a coconut. Coir is widely used for making various products such as floor mats, Outdoor mats, Cordage , ropes, aquarium filters etc. Prior to these, Coir being the geo textiles come in a mind boggling range of woven & Non woven varities available for bio engineering including geo meshes, geo grids, anti-weed blankets, erosion control blankets, geo-rolls, geo-webs, and fascines.
Coir Industry is an important agro based employment oriented traditional cottage industry in india. The History of coir in India started with the association of Kerala State which dates back to 19th century. Coir industry enjoys the status as the largest cottage industry in the state of Kerala giving employment to over a million of people.
Alleppey, (Alappuzha) is the nerve centre of coir industry in Kerala. India established its first coir industry in Alleppey in 1859 by the Late Mr. James Darrah. The coir extraction technique in Kerala is a craft developed, perfected and mastered through generations, with Alappuzha being the centre of coir production.
